Canine and Equine Bodywork

Every session is tailored to your animal’s specific needs, and I work from a blended approach. I utilize various forms of massage, stretching, movement therapy, energy work, acu/myofascial points, and a variety of different therapies to help your animal restore balance, energy, and comfort. Since each session is tailored, the length of sessions can vary, and because of this, I don’t charge hourly, but instead charge a blanket price per session. I block out 2.5 hours for your animal’s session to ensure I have time to serve your animal’s unique needs and body.

Therapies

In addition to intentional touch bodywork, I also offer therapeutic equipment during sessions including BEMER (pemf), red-light, tuning fork, physio pads, oils and sprays, and kinesiology tape.

— Kinesiology Tape —

I find KT applications can be very useful in supporting bodywork, vet care, injury/trauma healing, detoxing and circulating tissue, etc. KT is useful due to its properties of the tape:

  • Reducing Pain: the lifting effect of the tape can reduce pressure on pain receptors as well as creating space through the tissues for deeper release- stimulating healing and recovery.
  • Lymphatic and Blood Circulation: The space created by the tape also improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow/drainage. Tape can be excellent in helping with swelling, edemas, inflammation, etc.- with vet approval on specific cases of injury.
  • Supporting Fascia, Musculature, and Joints: Tape can provide support while improving range of motions to muscles, help unwind and lengthen fascia, and provide excellent support to joints.
  • Proprioception & Body Awareness: One of the best benefits of KT, in my opinion, is the added increase in proprioception to the nervous system, allowing the horses to become more aware of their body and where it is in space and gravity. This is crucial when it comes to movement, healing, posture improvements, and even hoof health.

Track Systems: A More Natural Approach to Equine Care and Management

24/7 Free Choice Hay in Nets

Horses are designed to be foraging, browsing, and grazing 16+ hours per day. When access to forage is limited, it can create disruptions to their behavior, nervous system, and to their physical bodies. This can show up in ways like food aggression, many different metabolic and GI disorders, food-obsession, etc. At Kahu Equus Ranch, we provide a variety of hay (Timothy, Orchard, & Brome) 24/7 in nets spread around the track system to encourage natural foraging behaviors and constant movement.

24/7 Turnout in Herd

Horses are meant to be living in a herd and moving- with constant, full-access to other horses so they can create relationships, trust, and safety. When horses are isolated from others, it can create a variety of issues like buddy-sourness, extreme anxiety, GI and metabolic disorders due to stress, etc. At Kahu Equus Ranch, we only offer herd-living boarding on our Track System. When horses have constant access with their herd, it only deepens our human relationships with them.

Species-Appropriate Care

While it is difficult to fully emulate the natural environment and behaviors they were designed to live by, we at Kahu Equus Ranch strive to offer our herd species-appropriate care. We start by providing 24/7 forage, friends, and movement while also providing more natural and holistic nutrition support; enrichment involving herbs, minerals, and whole-foods; terrain variety, natural obstacles, squeegee footing to support hoof health, etc.
